Jose Luis Martínez Almeida, Mayor of Madrid, has been one of the biggest stars in the run up to the start of the 2019 Open de España tournament.
Apart from being the mayor, he is the president of the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, and being a golf fanatic, as demonstrated by his 4 handicap, he will not want to miss a single minute of the action this week.
Wednesday saw him play the course for the second time in the last four days, after his visit last Sunday. This time he played in the Pro-Am with Jon Rahm, who also joined him at Tuesday’s spectacular tournament presentation at the Wanda Metropolitano alongside Sergio García and Rafa Cabrera-Bello.
We took the opportunity to talk to him about his experience this week, the importance to Madrid of hosting this Open de España and, while he was at it, he put his neck on the line and predicted the winner.
