Austrian player Bernd Wiesberger, who has just played in his first Ryder Cup with the European team, has confirmed his participation in the ACCIONA Open de España presented by Madrid which takes place at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid from 7 to 10 October.
The central European golfer will join his Ryder Cup teammate Jon Rahm at a tournament hosted at the renowned Madrid course for the tenth time. It will be the 93rd edition of the event, making it one of the most prestigious on the European Tour.
Bernd Wiesberger comes to Madrid after an outstanding season that saw him, among other things, become the first Austrian player to compete in the Ryder Cup. Wiesberger, who turned professional in 2006 and will turn 36 on 8 October -the second day of the tournament-, has participated in the Open de España three times (2009, 2011 and 2014), his best result coming in 2011, when he finished 36th.
However, in recent years, the Austrian has climbed the rankings thanks to a string of solid performances that have seen him become a leading player not just in his own country, but in the continent of Europe.
With eight European Tour victories under his belt, this season he won the Made in Himmerland, as well as producing impressive finishes at the Omega European Masters (second), the BMW International Open (fifth), the Omega Dubai Desert Classic (sixth) and PGA Tour event the RSM Classic (fourth).
