Cabrera, Arnaus, Forrest, Sharma and Guerrier win the ACCIONA Emissions Under Par prizes

One of the main goals of ACCIONA’s contribution to the organisation of this Open de España has been to make this world-class sports tournament a “positive-impact event” both socially and environmentally, particularly in terms of controlling the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, as a means to combat climate change.

More than simply being an event that does not harm its social and environmental surroundings, it also contributes to improving and regenerating them so that by the end of the tournament, Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, the city of Madrid itself and the planet as a whole will be better and cleaner places to play golf and live in.

Therefore, ACCIONA, the tournament’s main sponsor, also wanted the sporting excellence of the best players at the Open de España to contribute to this objective. Thus, they have created the ACCIONA Emissions Under Par prizes, which will be rewarded to the top three players at this Open de España.

By means of the prizes, ACCIONA will commit to compensate for the emissions each of the players and their respective caddies are estimated to generate from their sporting activities over the course of 10, 6 and 4 seasons (winner, runner-up and third place).

In collaboration with Madrid’s city council, it will then effectively cancel out their carbon footprint for the next 10, 6 and 4 years, respectively, by means of reforestation and the planting of trees capable of capturing more CO2 emissions than they players are expected to generate from their sporting activities in that time.

As a result of these prizes, the almost 3,000 trees that were already to be planted in order to compensate for the event’s carbon footprint and ensure its positive environmental impact, will be increased to between 7,000 and 10,000 trees planted in Madrid on behalf and in recognition of the prize-winning players.

The success of these three players at the ACCIONA Open de España presented by Madrid (who can now call themselves “emission-free players”) will not only be a demonstration of their sporting excellence, they will also have contributed to making our planet a better place.

The winners of the ACCIONA Emissions Under Par prizes are:

    Rafa Cabrera (1 year x 10)

    Adri Arnaus (1 year x 6)

Sharma, Guerrier and Forrest (1 year x 4)
