Madrid and golf go hand in hand and their relationship is a very satisfactory one. A great example of its worth is the Acciona Open de España presented by Madrid which is fast establishing itself as a huge attraction for the Madrid public, but there is much more to this perfect symbiosis.
Sport is much more than just sport, it is also a source of wealth for the economy of Madrid and the rest of Spain. It is a showcase for tourism.
* Last year, almost 1 million rounds were played on courses in Madrid (994,000), of which over 100,000 were played by players from other regions and 11,400 by foreign players.
* Golf tourists visiting Madrid spend 55% more than the average tourist, generating over 20 million euros per year and in 2019 alone we were visited by over 11,000 foreign golfers. Our sport is a source of wealth and quality tourism that attracts over 1 million foreigners to Spain every year.
* The golf industry in the Community of Madrid generates 235 million euros. In order to create this revenue, goods and services with a total value of over 36 million euros were acquired and investments of more than 10 million euros were made.
* The Community of Madrid boasts three UNESCO World Heritage Sites: The Monastery and Site of the Escurial; the Aranjuez Cultural Landscape and the University and Historic Precinct of Alcalá de Henares. All three of these sites have golf courses.
* There are over 1,800 direct jobs in golf in the Community of Madrid and a further 300 in the rest of the country linked to golf in Madrid.
