Matthieu Pavon, last season’s ACCIONA Open de España presented by Madrid champion, has confirmed he will be back at this year’s tournament, which takes place at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid from 26 to 29 September.
“Winning the ACCIONA Open de España presented by Madrid last year was incredibly special to me”, said Pavon. “It was a milestone in my career, and the memories from that day at Club de Campo are ones I’ll treasure for a long time. It was the catalyst for an amazing few months of golf for me, and I’m really looking forward to being back in Madrid, competing again, and playing in front of the passionate Spanish crowds. Their energy and support create such a fantastic atmosphere, and I can’t wait to experience it all over again.”
Like other of today’s big-name players, Matthieu Pavon started to stand out with his triumph at the 2023 ACCIONA Open de España, where he dominated from start to finish.
From Thursday to Sunday, the French player played some impeccable golf, earning himself a place alongside the select group of winners at this century-old event, including, among others, Seve Ballesteros and Jon Rahm. His astonishing -23 total took him close to the record lowest score for the Open de España, set by Jon Rahm himself in 2022 (-25).
The result earned Matthieu Pavon, number 23 in the World Golf Rankings, a card for the PGA Tour, where he burst onto the scene with a victory at the Farmers Insurance Open late in January 2024.
