On Monday 4 October, ACCIONA stole some limelight from the golfers as it took part in a clinic for over 200 children and parents on the driving range at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid. The initiative forms part of the sustainability strategy designed by ACCIONA as the tournament’s title sponsor, in an effort to promote social awareness and publicise the results of last year’s campaign.
ACCIONA explained the sustainability strategy it has designed for the tournament with an interactive talk, from which children learned about concepts such as regenerative design, the inclusion of social and economic aspects in sustainable development, and the importance of children as the generations who will be taking care of the planet in the future.
In addition, through their answers, the children were able to find out about the initiatives implemented by the tournament in order to reduce its impact, such as the use of electric vehicles and promoting the use of public transport, reducing water consumption and energy, and reusing the infrastructure from one year to the next.
The children were excited to participate and proved very knowledgeable on many of the sustainability measures they can implement at home and in their way of living in order to reduce contamination and even generate a positive impact. One such measure is the planting of trees, and the young listeners learnt about the 4,000 trees planted by the tournament in 2021.
