We now know the complete field of players who are set to tee it up at the ACCIONA Open de España presented by Madrid on 12 October at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid. A wealth of huge talent is set to delight fans with four days of spectacular golf.
World number 3, Jon Rahm will start out as hot favourite to defend the title he claimed last year and will be back in the Spanish capital in search of his fourth ACCIONA Open title, which would take him past Severiano Ballesteros’ haul at the event. However, there will be some great players standing in Rahm’s way as they bid to claim the crown on Club de Campo’s black course.
One of the favourites for the title will be Justin Rose. The 2013 US Open champion was a key member of Europe’s victorious Ryder Cup in Rome. Three of his Vice Captains in the Italian capital will also be in the field; Eduardo Molinari, Thomas Bjorn and Nicolas Colsaerts.
Other big names at the tournament include Frenchman Victor Perez, a three-time DP WORLD TOUR champion, who currently lies sixth in the Race to Dubai. Among the Spaniards competing will be Pablo Larrazábal, twice a champion this year on the European tour, who will be bidding for his first ever win in Madrid. Rafa Cabrera Bello, the tournament’s 2021 champion, will be looking to complete his double. Other home favourites will include Adrián Otaegui, the world number 95 will be gunning for his fifth win on tour in the Spanish capital. Other Spaniards to keep an eye on will be Jorge Campillo of Extremadura, the Catalonian Adri Arnaus, and of course the Sevillian Álvaro Quirós, the champion thirteen years ago. Luis Masaveu and Ángel Ayora will be the amateurs competing at this year’s Open de España.
Other names to follow round the Club de Campo course include Marcel Siem, young Northern Irish player Tom Mckibbin, and the South African Thriston Lawrence. This list goes on, and on… a classy field, for a classy tournament.
