Two weeks after competing for Team Europe at the Ryder Cup in Rome, Justin Rose will tee it up for the first time at the ACCIONA Open de España presented by Madrid, which takes place at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid from 12 to 15 October.
The Englishman, who has enjoyed a dazzling career will go head-to-head with the new flagbearer of Spanish golf, Jon Rahm, currently the world number 3, who will also be representing Europe at the Ryder Cup in Italy.
Rose will be making his sixth appearance in the biennial event, where he has starred in three European victories (2012, 2014 and 2018). These wins are just some of the jewels in the crown of a truly stellar career which includes 11 titles on the DP World Tour, 11 on the PGA Tour and one major victory at the 2013 US Open. He also boasts three second place finishes at majors, including the 2015 and 2017 Masters as well as the 2018 Open championship. Furthermore, he earned Olympic glory by winning a gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
This list of triumphs took Rose to the top of the world rankings in September 2018, in the midst of an eight-year spell among the top ten in the world.
His natural talent led him to turn professional at the age of 17, the day after he finished fourth at The 1995 Open Championship. He enjoyed a successful amateur career with victories at the McGregor Trophy, Carris Trophy, St Andrews Links Trophy and the Peter McEvoy Trophy.
Since then, he has never stopped winning, with memorable victories at the 2007 Volvo Masters, the WGC – Cadillac Championship in 2012, the 2017 WGC – HSBC Champions and, above all, the 2013 US Open. In February this year, he showed a return to form with victory at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, proving that the former world number one can still compete with the very best players in the world.
Rose commented, “I am really looking forward to competing in Madrid next month, the tournament has a great reputation and history, so I have been wanting to compete for some time and this year the schedule aligned. With this being such an important month for European golf, I’m excited to have the chance to play in front of the amazing Spanish fans and hopefully be in contention come Sunday afternoon.”
